David 'the Hayemaker' Haye: What to expect

With David Haye's fight against Australian heavyweight Mark De Mori coming up on the 16th January, I want to take a look at what we should expect from the two weight world champion and, if he comes through the fight, what are the options he has in front of him.

It has only just recently been announced by theboxingscene.com that Haye's fight is set to take place on Dave TV (http://www.boxingscene.com/haye-de-mori-shown-on-uk-tv-channel-dave--100046). For those fans in the US who are unfamiliar with Dave it usually buys and repeats comedy shows that have already been broadcasted on other networks, in other words its an awful channel to have a boxing match shown on. His comeback has been further damaged by the withdrawal of Billy Dib due to injury who was on the main fight on the under card.

However things are not all bad for the brash, cocky 35 year old. If he comes through his fight with De Mori, which I believe he will in some style, then Haye has a whole range of possibilities and opponents that he could fight and there are some extremely interesting match ups not too far away on the horizon.

Haye's name has been bounded about in connection with sensation Anthony Joshua, who is just coming of the toughest fight of his young career against Dylan White who he knocked out in the 8th round at Wembley. The two, in fact, rather tepidly called each other out before that fight on Sky and I think this is a match that would be a lot more one sided than people think. Haye is simply all wrong for Joshua; his movement; his speed; his ring IQ, not to mention the sickening punching power that Haye possesses would eventually prove to be too much for Joshua. If Matchroom Sports and Eddie Hearn are stupid enough to take that fight, Joshua and his record will be in a lot of trouble.

This said, I think they are wise enough to not take Haye on so early in Joshua's career and a look at other options would be far more sensible. It is no secret that Haye wants to go for the WBC route and challenge Deontay Wilder for that belt. Again this fight, much like the Joshua one, would be one that Haye comfortably wins. Deontay Wilder is the most overrated fighter in the division. Al Haymon keeps putting him up against bum after bum which has meant that he has walked his way to a world championship. Wilder would be no match for Haye's speed and he would see Wilder's shots from a mile off.

Not everyone will agree with this, but I think it's brilliant for the division that David Haye is back in the mix, I think him and Anthony Joshua are setting themselves up for a huge domestic bust up and the longer that fight is delayed the better it will be for Joshua and the fairer the fight would be. My prediction is that Haye will be fighting for the WBC belt by late 2016/early 2017.
