The Man Behind the Gloves: Shane McGuigan

As 'Saint' George Groves, steps into the ring against Italian Andrea de Luisa this Saturday many will be expecting the old, fast George that we saw against the likes of James DeGale, Paul Smith and even against Carl Froch even though it ended in defeat.

The man responsible behind this transformation is 26 year old Shane McGuigan, who is now starting to receive the recognition he deserves after training Carl Frampton from scratch to win the IBF super batamweight title back in 2014 and has now recently brought in big names such as David Haye and George Groves.

2016 is a massive year for Shane as he is looking to bring Haye and Groves back into world title challenges, whilst on the 27th February the mouth watering clash between Scoot Quigg and Carl Frampton is a unification fight that has the potential to an absolute classic.

McGuigan has been quoted saying that George has to go back to what he does best which is staying behind the jab and stop loading up his shots as much as he has been doing. There is no doubt that Groves is a world class operator and it is up to Shane to make Groves' dream of a world title become a reality.

One side note that is very interesting is the fact that three of the smartest boxers have all started to train for Shane. This is no coincidence, Shane comes across very calm, collected and composed, however none of this matters if he cannot deliver world titles for his fighters.

My prediction is that you will see Irishman Carl Frampton beat Scott Quigg in February and then by the end of the year west London boy George Groves will win the world title in his fourth attempt. Shane McGuigan's stock will only get better and better and as the years go on he will be training more and more world champions. You heard it here first!
